Why we run
To get some fresh air... For the competitive spirit and fire within your heart... To figure out your VDOT for summer training...Whatever your reason for running is, it's a good one. So's ours. We're called the Celebrate! 5k/Fun Run because no reason to celebrate is too small. And by our simple gathering on this day, celebrating our health, we can reflect on those things that deserve celebrating - spring's arrival, a successful training season, a victory against illness or disease.
This year, The Arlington High School Cross Country Teams are donating 50% of the proceeds from the Celebrate! 5k/Fun Run directly to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's Barr Program in memory of Catherine Malatesta. It's a pretty awesome place staffed by very awesome scientists, doctors, and researchers. You can check out some more specific examples of the incredible work the Barr Program is doing for basic, innovative cancer research here.
50% of the proceeds from the event go directly towards funding the basic, innovative cancer research mentioned above. And you even get a free t-shirt (if you're in the first 50 to register).
After the race there will be a brief awards presentation and an opportunity drawing for prizes including gift certificates, gift baskets, and Boston Red Sox tickets - even more reason to celebrate. All registered racers receive one entry, and more may be purchased on the day of the race.
